College GPA Calculator
Calculate your college GPA on the standard US 4.0 scale. Enter each course’s credit hours and letter grade, and this calculator returns your credit-weighted GPA — the figure your transcript reports. College GPA is almost always unweighted: an A or A+ is 4.0, a B is 3.0, down to F = 0, with each course weighted by its credit hours so a 4-credit class counts more than a 1-credit lab. Add your prior GPA and credits to roll everything into a cumulative college GPA. Free, no login, and every calculation stays in your browser.
College GPA = Σ(credit hours × grade points) ÷ Σ(credit hours), on the unweighted 4.0 scale
- Worked example: A (4.0)×3cr + B+ (3.3)×4cr + A− (3.7)×3cr + B (3.0)×2cr → 42.3 ÷ 12 = 3.53
- Most colleges cap an A+ at 4.0, so an unweighted college GPA tops out at exactly 4.0.
Frequently asked questions
Is college GPA weighted or unweighted?
College GPA is almost always unweighted — every course sits on the plain 4.0 scale regardless of difficulty, and it is weighted only by credit hours. Weighted bonuses for Honors/AP are a high-school convention; at college level the credit hours do the weighting.
How many credits is a normal college course?
Most US college courses are 3 or 4 credit hours; labs and seminars are often 1–2. Enter the exact credit hours from your transcript for each course so the credit-weighting is accurate.
