Creatinine to eGFR Calculator
Have a serum creatinine result and want to know what it means for your kidney function? This calculator converts serum creatinine to eGFR using the CKD-EPI 2021 race-free equation, which needs your creatinine, age and sex. Creatinine alone is not enough — the same value means very different filtration in a young man versus an older woman — so the equation combines all three. Enter creatinine in mg/dL (US) or µmol/L (international; mg/dL = µmol/L ÷ 88.42), and the tool returns eGFR in mL/min/1.73 m² plus the KDIGO stage from G1 to G5. For reference, a woman aged 55 with a creatinine of 1.1 mg/dL has an eGFR of about 59, which is stage G3a. Bear in mind that creatinine and eGFR shift with hydration, muscle mass and acute illness, and that a single result is a screening estimate rather than a diagnosis. Serum creatinine + age + sex → eGFR via CKD-EPI 2021 (race-free)
- Units: mg/dL (US) or µmol/L (international); mg/dL = µmol/L ÷ 88.42
- Worked example: creatinine 1.1 mg/dL, woman 55 → eGFR ≈ 59 → stage G3a
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert creatinine to eGFR?
You cannot convert creatinine alone — eGFR needs creatinine, age and sex together in the CKD-EPI 2021 equation. Enter all three and the calculator returns eGFR in mL/min/1.73 m² and the KDIGO stage. A creatinine of 1.1 mg/dL means a different eGFR at different ages and sexes.
What creatinine level is normal?
Typical adult serum creatinine is roughly 0.6–1.1 mg/dL for women and 0.7–1.3 mg/dL for men, but reference ranges vary by lab and muscle mass. Rather than reading creatinine alone, use eGFR, which combines it with age and sex, and confirm any concern with a clinician — a single value is not a diagnosis.
