Percentile = (class size − rank) ÷ class size × 100 (higher is better)
- Worked example: rank 45 of 300 → (300 − 45) ÷ 300 × 100 = 85th percentile
- Top-% = rank ÷ size × 100 = 45 ÷ 300 × 100 = top 15%; decile = ceil(15 ÷ 10) = 2nd decile

How are tied ranks handled?
This calculator assumes distinct ranks. In practice schools break ties differently — some share a rank, others use the mid-rank of the tied group. The tie-aware formula is percentile = (students below + 0.5 × students tied) ÷ class size × 100, so if your school reports ties your official percentile can differ slightly from this estimate.
