Treadmill Pace Calculator
Convert a treadmill speed into a running pace, or a target pace into a treadmill speed. The rule is simple: pace = 60 minutes ÷ speed, so 12 km/h is 60 ÷ 12 = 5:00/km, and 7.5 mph is 60 ÷ 7.5 = 8:00/mi. Enter a distance and time (or a pace) and the calculator shows pace per km and per mile, with even splits so you know each kilometre’s time on the belt. Because treadmills remove wind resistance, many runners set a 1% incline so the displayed speed better matches the effort of running the same pace outdoors, especially at faster speeds. Switch the distance-unit toggle between km and mi to match your treadmill’s display. This is a fitness estimate — general fitness guidance, not a guaranteed race time.
Treadmill: pace = 60 ÷ speed (12 km/h → 5:00/km; 7.5 mph → 8:00/mi)
- Pace shown per km and per mile, with even splits
- A 1% incline helps match outdoor effort at the same displayed speed
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert treadmill speed to pace?
Divide 60 by the speed. At 12 km/h, pace is 60 ÷ 12 = 5:00 per km; at 10 km/h it is 6:00/km; at 7.5 mph it is 60 ÷ 7.5 = 8:00 per mile. Set the distance unit to match your treadmill’s display (km/h or mph) and the calculator shows the pace in that unit.
Should I set an incline on the treadmill?
Many runners use a 1% incline to offset the lack of wind resistance indoors, which makes the effort at a given displayed speed closer to running the same pace outdoors. It matters more at faster paces; for easy runs a 0% incline is fine.
