Grade Average Calculator
A grade average is the simple mean of your scores when every assignment counts the same. Add each score and this calculator sums them and divides by how many there are — no weighting, no credit hours, just the plain average. It is the right tool when your syllabus treats all items equally (for example, ten quizzes each worth the same). Grade average = (sum of all scores) ÷ (number of scores), with every item weighted equally
- Worked example: scores of 90, 85, 80 and 95 → (90 + 85 + 80 + 95) ÷ 4 = 350 ÷ 4 = 87.5% (a B)
- Equal weighting is the special case of a weighted average where every weight is the same, so the weights cancel out.
- On the US band, 87.5% lands in the B range (80–89.99%); switch any weight to change how much a single score counts.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my grade average?
Add up all your scores and divide by how many there are. For four scores of 90, 85, 80 and 95, that is 350 ÷ 4 = 87.5%. This calculator does it automatically when every category carries the same weight — a plain, unweighted mean.
What is the difference between a grade average and a weighted grade?
A grade average treats every item equally, so the weights cancel out and you get a simple mean. A weighted grade lets each category count a different amount — for example homework 20% and the final 35% — so a high-weight item moves your grade more. Use the Category weights mode above if your syllabus weights categories differently.
