The Digital SAT fully replaced the paper test in the US in spring 2024. It is shorter (about 2 hours 14 minutes), section-adaptive, and still scored 400–1600, but it has only two sections — Reading & Writing and Math — instead of the old paper test's three. Each section is split into two modules: everyone takes the same Module 1, and your performance decides whether Module 2 is the harder or easier version, which gates the top of the 200–800 scale. Is the Digital SAT scored differently from the old paper SAT?
The scale is the same 400–1600, but the structure changed. The digital test has two sections — Reading & Writing and Math — instead of the paper test's separate Reading, Writing & Language, and Math. It is also section-adaptive, so the difficulty of your second module depends on your first. The old paper raw-to-scaled tables no longer apply.
What is the adaptive module on the Digital SAT?
Each section has two modules. Module 1 is the same for everyone; your score on it routes you into a harder or easier Module 2. Only the harder Module 2 can reach the top of the 200–800 range — the easier one effectively caps a section around 670, an unofficial estimate. That is why this tool asks which second module you saw.
