75% Attendance Calculator
Most Indian universities require at least 75% attendance in each subject to be eligible to sit the end-semester exam, so the practical question is: given the classes held so far, how many more must I attend — or how many can I safely skip — to stay above 75%? This calculator answers both. Your attendance now is simply attended ÷ held × 100; if you are below 75% it tells you how many classes in a row you must attend to catch up, and if you are above it tells you how many you can bunk. For example, 55 classes attended out of 80 held is 68.75%, so you must attend the next 20 classes straight to reach 75%. Free, no sign-up, runs entirely in your browser.
Attendance now = attended ÷ held × 100; classes to reach target t = ceil((t × held − attended) ÷ (1 − t)), with t = 0.75 for the 75% rule
- Worked example: 55 of 80 held → (55 ÷ 80) × 100 = 68.75%, below the 75% bar
- Catch-up: ceil((0.75 × 80 − 55) ÷ (1 − 0.75)) = ceil(5 ÷ 0.25) = 20 consecutive classes to hit 75%
- Once you are above 75%, the plan flips to a cushion: how many of the upcoming classes you can skip and stay eligible.
Frequently asked questions
What is the 75% attendance rule?
Most Indian universities and UGC-linked regulations require students to attend at least 75% of the classes held in each subject to be eligible for the end-semester examination. Some colleges allow condonation down to 65% on medical or genuine grounds, but 75% is the standard bar. Confirm the exact threshold and any relaxation in your own college handbook.
How many classes must I attend to reach 75%?
If you are below the bar, attend classes in a row until you catch up: the count is ceil((0.75 × held − attended) ÷ (1 − 0.75)). With 55 attended out of 80 held you are at 68.75%, so you must attend ceil((60 − 55) ÷ 0.25) = 20 consecutive classes to reach 75%. Each class you then miss pushes the target back.
Does missing a class always drop me below 75%?
No — only if you have no cushion. Once your attendance is comfortably above 75%, you can miss a number of classes before touching the bar. Enter your attended and held counts and the calculator shows exactly how many you can skip; below the bar it shows how many you must attend instead.
